TheJnet is the only Internet service provider in the nation that offers proxy-free, server-based filtering in combination with customized levels of access. Our unique technology allows us to offer high-speed, high-security Internet access that is flexible enough to meet diverse needs. TheJnet's T1 for Schools service includes the following features:

  • High-security Internet filtering
  • 4 filtering profiles (for various levels of access within the business)
  • 5 e-mail accounts
  • Full-featured browser for surfing the Web
  • Web mail (check e-mail from any PC)
  • High-speed, high-capacity, dedicated T1 connection
  • Talk and surf the Web simultaneously, on a single phone line
  • Instant access-never a busy signal
  • 24/7 technical support
  • Kids, speed, each classroom own profile

With a dedicated T1 connection from TheJnet, you'll have a constant Internet connection, allowing full, instant access to the resources of the Internet and your own various networks and resources, without waiting while dialing up or worrying about whether a connection will be available when it's critical to have one. Teachers can plan lessons that rely on the Internet, knowing they won't have to postpone any studies due to the Internet not being on. And the speed of a T1 connection allows a full classroom of students to surf the Internet simultaneously.

You'll be able to rapidly up- or download very large amounts of data and huge files (such as graphic, sound, or video files) with a transmission speed of 1.5 Mbps guaranteed. And if a large number of school personnel need access to the Internet, a dedicated T1 connection can help you realize a lower cost per person and a lower cost per hour.

High Security

With conventional proxy-based filtering, a proxy is put into each computer's browser specifying the IP address of a certain computer through which all the school's computers must access the Internet. To bypass this filtering, any student or staff member on any computer can simply go into the browser's setup and change the IP address for the proxy. And because the software with the list of prohibited sites is installed on the school's computer, it is up to school personnel to keep the filtering up to date by downloading frequent updates. This is a formidable problem when about 1000 new offensive sites are added to the Internet daily.

With TheJnet, all filtering is done on our own server. There is no software for the school to install on its computers and no vulnerable proxies in its browsers. And TheJnet updates its filters daily, so you don't have to worry about new sites slipping past your filter. This method is not only safer, but also more convenient. You can sign up and be online in a few minutes, because there is no filtering software for you to install, download, or update.

TheJnet provides a choice of two filtering methods. The most secure method uses a white list, or list of permitted sites. This is especially useful in schools, where the need for security is so high. With a white list, for example, a computer could be set up to access only selected encyclopedia sites.

The other filtering method allows access to any site that isn't blocked. TheJnet uses a variety of resources to create a comprehensive list of sites to block, including sophisticated computer searches and manual site inspections. TheJnet's filtering is precise and designed to avoid filtering out legitimate sites.

High Speed

Conventional proxy-based filtering routes traffic through a bottleneck that can slow performance significantly: the single computer through which you must access the Internet can be overwhelmed by heavy traffic.

With TheJnet, traffic is fast because each computer connects directly to the Internet. For each computer, you simply dial in to TheJnet as your Internet service provider and supply a user name and password. As students use the Internet, TheJnet then monitors the Internet addresses they request. Only when they request a site that is prohibited does TheJnet interfere, jumping in and blocking access to that site.

Flexibility

At TheJnet, we recognize that different employees, different students, and different classrooms within the same school may have different needs for access and filtering, so we provide five standard filtering profiles for you to choose from, or you can ask us to create custom profiles to suit your needs. Each account can accommodate up to five users, each with its own e-mail, password, and filtering profile.

TheJnet lets you choose precisely which types of content to block in each profile. For example, you can block chat sites, shopping sites, or gaming sites. And unlike proxy-based filtering, TheJnet can selectively filter freeware, shareware, video, and audio and block only the objectionable ones, rather than blocking all or none. Of course, in keeping with our values and philosophy, there are certain pornographic sites to which we do not allow access under any profile.
